Aside from that, only other thing I can think of being into that might be related is like, guns and general military nerd stuff? I've been shooting in some respect since I was a teenager. Never got much into model-making, my hands shake too much for dealing with the tiny fiddly parts or painting anything, so I'll do GunPla and shit, but that's about it. I actually had an issue where, when I'd actually slot in on someone's tail, I wouldn't be able to land shots or fly steady because lol mouseaim and shaky hands made worse by the excitement of actually maybe securing a kill for once Oh, and I played War Thunder for a bit too, but I fell more into the tanks than the planes. Also MS Flight Sim X was in there at some point too but I hardly remember playing it much, I just have a boxed retail copy floating around still. I think I went something like Ace Combat > IL-2 1946 > DCS Black Shark > DCS World, and now I kinda append X-Plane to the end of that considering I've gotten into doing bush flying in that. Honestly my interest in flight sims wasn't really piqued again until a few years ago when the first Oculus Dev kits hit the scene. When I did get back into PC after getting my hands on a hand me down 386, I discovered the papyrus NASCAR/Indycar games and went down the rabbit hole of driving sims. There was a bit of a hiatus during the 16 bit console era given the format didn't really cater for the genre (Desert strike was a staple, however). Piracy being what it was back then, I think I had all of the microprose sims at some stage, but as a teenager it wasn't something I would really pour much time into. If games tracked play time back then, it would probably rival anything in my current steam library. I think I was first drawn in by "Tomcat - The F14 flight simulator" on Atari 2600 as a 7 or 8 year old.īattlehawks 1942 was probably the next opportunity I had to indulge in flight simming when a family friend lent me an Amiga 500 for 6 months, followed by "Their finest hour: the battle of Britain" when our family got its first 'DOS' based PC.
